Writing at Home

Writing and Your Child – What can you do to help?

There are many ways you can help your child to write at home. Writing is all around us. In our everyday lives we write shopping lists, notes, letters and greetings cards. You can involve your children in these activities and encourage a writing environment at home.

How to create a writing environment:

  • Ensure a variety of pens and paper are readily available, including those with picture borders if possible.
  • Try to set aside a quiet time and place for your child to write.
  • Make writing fun and for a reason, such as letters to relatives, shopping lists and signs around the house.
  • Don’t forget to use the computer if you have one. They are not just for games!
