Intent

Our goal for children at Whitley Park is for every child to understand and appreciate the rich diversity of belief which is represented in both our school and nation.

Implementation

Our goal for children at Whitley Park is for every child to understand and appreciate the rich diversity of belief which is represented in both our school and wider society.

At Whitley Park, we ensure that our Religious Education curriculum is drawn from the Pan-Berkshire Agreed Syllabus. Our aim is to give children a strong foundation of understanding various worldviews and cultures through a lens of respect and openness. We seek to ensure that children are exposed to a rich variety of points of view such as can be found in our local, national and global communities. We desire for our pupils to leave Whitley Park having had a Religious Education that prepares them to become tolerant, integrated citizens of a diverse, multicultural society. Children will learn about the core beliefs of each faith and how these can guide lifestyle choices and recognise how religious identity can be shaped by families and communities. ‘Big Questions’ drive each unit giving children the opportunity to explore and consider how people’s beliefs are reflected by their actions and practices and how these help them to respond to life experiences.

In line with legislation, Christianity is taught each year to reflect the Christian heritage of the British Isles, as well as give children a foundation upon which to understand the role of Christian belief in influencing British culture and history. We aim to teach a curriculum that is relevant and inclusive to our pupils, that encourages them to share their own beliefs while exploring those of others in their school.
