Intent
Our aim of our personal, social and health education at Whitley Park is to support children’s personal development, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to be productive members of both the school community and beyond.
IMPLEMENTATION
At Whitley Park, we use Jigsaw to teach our PSHE and RSHE curriculum. Jigsaw provides a whole-school, mindful approach that brings together personal, social and health education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development, while also embedding British Values throughout all learning. British Values are promoted at Whitley Park to ensure that the children leave school prepared for life in modern Britain.
Our PSHE curriculum follows six key themes taught across the whole school:
-
Being Me in My World
-
Celebrating Difference
-
Dreams and Goals
-
Healthy Me
-
Relationships
-
Changing Me
Each year group studies the same theme at the same time, creating a consistent whole-school approach. This allows children to revisit important ideas each year and build on their understanding in an age-appropriate way. Every new theme begins with a whole-school assembly, and the messages from these themes are revisited regularly in our weekly assemblies to strengthen our sense of community and belonging.
Our school values – Aspire, Believe, Achieve – are woven throughout our PSHE teaching, helping children to understand how these values can guide them not only in school but in all areas of their lives.
At Whitley Park, we value every child’s voice and encourage pupils to use it in a positive and respectful way. Through our School Council, children have the opportunity to experience democracy in action and see how their ideas and opinions can make a real difference within our school community. By taking part in discussions, decision-making and school projects, pupils learn important life skills such as responsibility, teamwork and active citizenship.
