A warm welcome to Whitley Park Primary and Nursery School website, we hope that you will find it informative and interesting and that it provides you with a flavour of what is on offer to children when they join us.
Our school motto is ‘Aspire, Believe, Achieve’ and we are committed to ensuring that all children succeed and do well.
The children at Whitley Park have been very busy in their Art lessons with Mrs Kayani this term. Year 1 have been inspired by the artist Antony Gormley, famous for his wire sculpture. They have created their own versions of beautiful sea creatures. As part of Year 5's topic this term 'The Benin Kingdom' Year 5 have created these wonderful Benin Masks made from papier mâché. Year 6 have been busy sculpting Ancient Greek urns made from self-drying clay. To give them a finished look they designed Greek patterns onto them, then painted and glazed them. Absolutely stunning work from all of the year groups Well done!
The children in the Hive really enjoyed creating these 'Pitta Pockets' of healthiness. A great opportunity to practise their hand eye co-ordination and develop conversations about the importance of healthy eating and a balanced diet.
On 28th June our Year 5 choir performed two songs at the Hexagon in the 'Children Helping Children' Celebration Concert They sounded amazing and performed brilliantly after practising for weeks after school on Mondays. Mrs Holland, Mrs Lockwood, and the rest of school community could not have been prouder of them. We were treated to VIP treatment on our way to The Hexagon on an old London Bus -we had lots of waves on the way and enjoyed a pizza tea before the big performance. We even got a mention from The Mayor in her summing up of the evenings celebration. Well done Team Y5 Choir!
Year 1 trip to the beach! Year 1 had a fantastic day out to Sandbanks recently The weather was very kind to us and our children had such a great time building sandcastles, splashing in the sea and picnicking with lots of seagulls on the beach! A day to remember forever! A great time was had by all with lots of exhausted children and adults too on the coach ride home
WEC Poetry Competition at Reading University Last Tuesday, we took the winners from our in-school poetry heats across different year groups to perform in The WEC Poetry Competition at the University of Reading. All of the children were fantastic and the quality of the performances were incredible. Our Reception children won the Early Years competition, receiving certificates, a medal and a book voucher, they performed a poem about Minibeasts and were amazing! Our Y2 children were runners up in their competition, receiving certificates and medals and were fantastic too! In KS2 we picked up a 1st place – Keira for her written poem, 2nd place - Kian, Caitlin, Latayah, Kayla, Abigail, Amy D, Amelie and Tamana (year 6) and 3rd place - Rieon and Kieron (year 6) for their incredible reciting of poems. Our year 3's and 5's were also superb and deserve a mention for their wonderful intonation: Tariro & Alicia – yr3; Ergisa, Kaitlyn, Jenisha and Ayah – yr5. To us they were all winners!
